The Beast Trail is a 6.5 mile singletrack mountain biking/hiking trail within the West Feliciana Sports Park of St. Francisville, LA. Trail expansion to 10 miles is actively underway and scheduled for completion in May 2010. Originally created by famed trail designer James Ramsaur, it was nicknamed "The Beast" by Baton Rouge mountain biker Charley Rome because of its very challenging double black diamond hills and switchbacks.
Coordinating the original trailbuilding efforts were former Lincoln Parish parks director Jay Ellington and West Feliciana Parish parks director Randy Albarez. James Ramsaur's other trail designs include the Tyler, TX State Park trail, the Eddie B. Jones "Monkey Trail" in Shreveport, and the Lincoln Parish Park trail. The Beast Trail is now officially maintained by the Tunica Trail Riders club, sponsored by West Feliciana Parish Parks and Recreation.
The Beast, due to its good drainage and high elevations, drains quickly and is usually ridable 6-12 hours after rainfall.
