Robert:
To give an answer to what you discussed with me a while back, here is USACycling's policy:
"Sport riders may move up to the expert category after two top five finishes by presenting an upgrade request and a resume to a USA Cycling official or to USA Cycling. Sport riders must advance to the appropriate Expert category after placing in the top five in five races. Failure to do so may result in license suspension."

So it's easier to cat up than I remember but there are some requirements. I'd say do it now if you qualify to better prepare yourself for the demons in the 30-39 age group! :-)
As for myself I suppose I qualify for the minimum already but I'd like to get three more USACycling podiums and a couple of races in particular I have set as goals.
Ah, thanks for that. Yeah I dont know what to do right now. I just need to figure out how to race as fast I can normally ride and see what the results are. I had an excellent spin class tonight, HR would go way up in an interval, then come back down fast, just the opposite of what happened in my previous races. I'll see what happens rest of the fall, and maybe a race or two in spring. But winter training will def be aimed at cat1.
